Immersive language programs designed for children 18 months to 5 years old.

Spanish Immersion Program

Our Spanish program offers a nurturing and engaging environment where young children can develop their language skills and cultural awareness through full immersion in the Spanish language. Designed for children ages 18 month through 5 years old, our program focuses on building a strong foundation in Spanish through play, music, storytelling, and interactive activities. Experienced teachers guide children in a supportive, bilingual setting, fostering both cognitive and social growth while nurturing curiosity and a love for learning. By immersing children in Spanish from an early age, we help them become confident communicators, preparing them for a globalized world.

Our curriculum emphasizes language acquisition, early literacy, problem-solving, and emotional development, all while celebrating the richness of global cultures. We provide a safe, welcoming space where children can learn, explore, and thrive in Spanish.

Mandarin Immersion Program

Our Mandarin immersion preschool offers a dynamic and nurturing environment for children aged 18 months to 5 years, where they are immersed in both the Mandarin language and culture elements. Through interactive play, storytelling, arts, and music, young learners develop strong language skills while exploring cultural traditions and values. Our curriculum is designed to promote bilingualism, cognitive growth, and cultural awareness, preparing children for a globalized world in a fun and engaging way.

Children will learn the phonetics of pinyin, the romanization of Mandarin, and will be exposed to easily recognizable characters (and how to write them!). Through strong social and emotional developmental skills and academic exploration, our teachers will prepare your children to take on the world of kindergarten!

CURRICULUM & A TYPICAL MORNING

As with most preschools, the children will do longer activities and more structured activities as they age.  From 8:30-12:45, all students will participate in the following activities weekly.

1).  Social/Emotional Development:  This element is delivered throughout the day in all facets of what we do.   Developing children to understand and navigate their feelings, recognize/regulate their emotions, and help them form a sense of empathy is of paramount importance to our mission.

2).  Circle time:   Prime structured learning time with classmates.   The theme of the week is introduced, presented, and different educational games are incorporated.  We go over daily rituals, and sing our morning songs to get ready for the day!

3).  Outdoor play:  Most of this time on our playground, field, and garden is free play, under the supervision of our staff.  It’s a time to let them get their energy out, socialize with friends, and try new activities!

4).  Art:   We do a lot of art!   Whether it be a coloring, painting, cutting, or pasting, your kiddos will be bringing home a lot of beauties to hang on the fridge and the wall!  These activities are theme based, but incorporate fine motor activities that will be challenging and engaging for your child.

5).  Physical Activities:   Yoga, running, dancing, climbing, ball sports, and more fun activities!  We put our Jefferson Theater and our field to good use for these activities.

6).  Science:  Tangible, visual projects that get our kiddos enthused as they marvel at the magic of science!  These take place Wednesdays, and are a favorite!

7).  Fine Motor Skills:   Whether with art, puzzles, building blocks, construction projects, and more, this is prime time to get our hands functioning!

8).  Global Culture:   Parents can lead our Friday “country cultural study” which will focus on one particular country for 2-3 Fridays per month.   Sharing other countries languages, food, music, dance and culture help our children gain a better understanding of our the global community.

9).  Math:  Children are introduced to age appropriate math concepts.  Counting, writing, recognition, basic addition and subtraction are all introduced to our students.

10).  Phonetics/Writing:   Children will be presented with writing all of the letters in the alphabet.   As they age, they will do their morning writing to refine their fine motor skills and engage with letter and number recognition.  Our alphabet is taught with Spanish and pinyin (the romanization of Mandarin) phonetics in our classrooms.

11).  Free/Creative Play:   We offer plenty of time for the kids to enjoy the classroom with their own intentions in mind.  Our teachers help facilitate the children with creative play/concepts, but allow them the time and independence to make them their own creation.

Benefits of Early Language Immersion

Language immersion preschools offer a variety of benefits, especially in terms of cognitive, social, and cultural development. Here are some key advantages:

Bilingualism or Multilingualism: Children are exposed to a second (or third) language in an immersive environment, which helps them become fluent in that language. Being bilingual or multilingual has cognitive benefits and can improve language skills in general. In a language immersion preschool, children often learn naturally, through interaction and play, which can lead to better pronunciation and fluency.

Cognitive Flexibility, Better Memory and Focus: Bilingual children tend to be better at problem-solving, multitasking, and thinking creatively. Immersion helps develop these cognitive skills by forcing the brain to switch between languages. Studies show that bilingual children tend to have better working memory and focus because their brains constantly process two languages, strengthening their mental flexibility.

Exposure to Different Cultures: Global Minds Preschool goes beyond just language, incorporating cultural practices, traditions, and values of the language being taught. This helps children develop empathy and respect for other cultures, fostering a more inclusive mindset. Children gain a broader perspective of the world, which can foster global citizenship, open-mindedness, and an appreciation for diversity from a young age.

Better Social Skill & Increased Confidence: Children in immersion programs often interact with peers from different backgrounds, helping them develop strong social skills like adaptability, empathy, and effective communication. Successfully navigating two languages can boost a child’s confidence. They learn to express themselves in different contexts, which can contribute to stronger self-esteem.

Stronger Academic Performance: Studies have shown that bilingual children often outperform their monolingual peers in certain academic subjects, particularly in areas such as math and reading comprehension. The cognitive benefits of bilingualism can lead to better academic outcomes overall.

Future Career Opportunities & Communication Skills: Being bilingual or multilingual opens up many career opportunities in an increasingly globalized world. Early immersion lays the foundation for future proficiency. Bilingualism enhances communication skills, which are essential not only in professional settings but also in personal relationships.
